SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

2020 Commencement

Commencement 2020 has been postponed until December. We will be having Fall Commencement capturing students from Summer and Fall 2019, Spring 2020, and Summer and Fall 2020. While we do not have a set date, we’ve gauged the weeks of the 7th and 14th as possible opportunities to have commencement. Degrees will still be conferred on the original date of May 9th and mailed to the address on file at University. *I will let you know when a decision on the date has been made.*

Many of you have asked about Commencement tickets and if the amount of tickets received will fluctuate. We decide the number of tickets based on the number of people who are participating in Commencement. We do not have those numbers at the moment and will have to revisit the conversation in the fall.

*The University will be hosting a Graduating Class Virtual Salute on Saturday, May 9th at 10 am. All you have to do as the graduate, is visit www.udc.edu or www.my.udc.edu  to view. This is not a live webcast, so you are not expected nor required to be on screen. We are still having Fall Commencement, but we want to acknowledge your hard work as graduates on the intended day of Commencement.*

Event Description: Like most academic institutions across the country, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have been forced to cancel or postpone commencement ceremonies due to the COVID-19 outbreak. As a result of this, JPMorgan Chase is supporting “Show Me Your Walk HBCU Edition,” a virtual commencement ceremony on May 16 that will celebrate the achievements of more than 27,000 HBCU students from 78 schools. JPMorgan Chase is supporting this effort through its Advancing Black Pathways initiative, which was created to help black communities close historical achievement gaps in three key areas: wealth creation, educational outcomes and career success to complete their bachelor’s degree. During the event, HBCUs will raise funds to support students because research shows they must often overcome significant socioeconomic challenges to complete bachelor’s degrees.
