University of the District of Columbia receives national recognition for achievements in student success

WASHINGTON – Education company EAB has named the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) as the winner of its Student Success Collaborative-Collaborative Citizenship Award.

EAB’s Collaborative Citizenship Award recognizes an institution that selflessly shares their practices and approaches to student success and strives to help their peers succeed.

This is the eighth year in a row that EAB has recognized outstanding achievements in student success. Awardees are chosen from among the colleges, universities and individuals that use Navigate, EAB’s student success management system, or Starfish, the student success platform EAB acquired earlier this year.

“Students, faculty and campus staff are still learning how to access and deliver the right combination of online and in-person support services that are critical to student success,” said, EAB President of Technology, Scott Schirmeier. “The winners of EAB’s 2021 Student Success Collaborative Awards have gone above and beyond in their mission to keep students on track to graduate at a time when the pandemic has completely upended the traditional student support model.”

Chief Student Development and Success Officer Dr. William U. Latham said, “At the University of the District of Columbia, we’ve worked to keep students on track by building state-of-the-art facilities and developing programs aimed at alleviating burdens exacerbated by – or in some cases, caused by – the pandemic. Since student success is a shared value across all institutions, we’ve been happy to share those methods and our results with other schools, and we’re honored EAB has recognized that commitment with the Collaborative Citizenship Award.”

The following institutions and one individual also were named winners of EAB’s 2021 Student Success Collaborative Awards:

Technology Pioneer Award winners:

  1. Metropolitan State University of Denver
  2. Sierra College

Return on Education Award winner: Tuskegee University

CONNECTEDness Award winners–the Milwaukee-Kenosha Moon Shot Region, made up of four institutions:

  2. Milwaukee Area Technical College
  3. University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee

The awards were presented at CONNECTED21, a three-day gathering – held virtually this year – of thousands of student success leaders from progressive community colleges as well as four-year colleges and universities.
