UDC among select group of universities to receive NIH grant for aging research

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded UDC’s Dr. Lara Thompson, Associate Professor in the UDC School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), with a grant for Advancing Aging Research and Education. The $1.9 million grant is one of four national awards; other schools receiving funding include University of California Davis, New York University and West Virginia University.

“I am excited to see UDC listed amongst other prestigious recipients across the country,” said Dr. Devdas Shetty, Dean of SEAS.

UDC SEAS LogoThe purpose of the NIH National Institute on Aging Medicine, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (NIA MSTEM) project (Advancing Diversity in Aging Research through Undergraduate Education at the University of the District of Columbia) is to address the needs of a rapidly growing aging population by engaging, training and equipping a diverse body of students at UDC to be able to conduct research and solve issues tied to aging.
