Community Outreach and Good Neighbor Policy
The University of the District of Columbia has been a vital part of the Van Ness community for many years. We are dedicated to preserving the positive relationships we have with our neighbors. To continue to foster these positive relationships we have created our “Good Neighbor Policy” for all students who commute and live in our university student apartments.
Good Neighbor Policy
Students living in the community or commuting to classes are members of the University of the District of Columbia and their behavior reflects directly on the university.
All students must recognize and appreciate that residents of the Van Ness community have made a commitment to their neighborhood. The overall atmosphere and quality of life of the neighborhood can be significantly influenced by the behavior exercised by all students. Displaying a courteous and respectful attitude at all times makes for better neighbor relations and a more positive experience for students, staff, faculty, and all community members.
Residents living in the neighborhood around campus have the right to enjoy a reasonable level of peace and quiet. Students are expected to implement good judgment and be receptive and respectful to the needs of our university neighbors.
Disorderly conduct, public intoxication, rowdiness, or any form of lewd or aggressive behavior is not consistent with the University’s values and those students found in violation may be subject to judicial review. The University of the District of Columbia’s Office of Public Safety will respond to complaints from neighbors and others when behavior occurs in our student apartments or around local businesses and establishments that is inconsistent with the behavioral expectations of the university.
