#hearmelead Women’s Leadership Project @UDC
Spring 2018 Performance
The #hearmelead Women’s Leadership Project @UDC was established on campus in 2016 through a grant from the American Association of University Women (AAUW). It is a peer mentoring program that brings together women of all backgrounds to not only promote effective, communicative, and supportive leadership skills, but also to foster other talents within women that help them connect to themselves and their communities. This program bonds women and helps them work together through the education and art of spoken word, a forceful and emotional form of poetic expression. The program also provides faculty, alumnae, and even members of AAUW with powerful and supportive networks that illuminate the issues and discussions women have every day. The performances of the poetry allow women the chance to practice the elevation of their voices and share their stories with the community. With the continuous practice of expression and connectivity, the program gives students new written and public speaking skills and produces empowered women with the confidence to share and lead.
There will be a performance of the #hearmelead poetry at Busboys and Poets, 14th & V Street, NW Washington, DC 20009, on May 4th, 2018 starting at 6 pm. If you are in interested in attending the program, please email Kemmell Watson at firstname.lastname@example.org or 202.274.5807.
