C.A.L. Fellows Overview

C.A.L. Fellows are faculty appointed by the director.  The mission of the C.A.L. Fellows (formerly the Committee for Online Learning, or C40L) is to assist C.A.L. in its mission to advance learning for the entire institution.  The C.A.L. Fellows are comprised of faculty & administrators who develop and disseminate guidelines, policies, and procedures that facilitate enhanced teaching and learning at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). In addition, C.A.L. Fellows lead UDC’s assessment practices for online course proposals and online courses as well as guide the university’s Institutional Strategic Planning process for Online Learning. As a committee, the C.A.L. Fellows establish guidelines consistent with the standards articulated by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

C.A.L. Fellows Objectives

  • To help the university and individual departments expand online offerings
  • To advise C.A.L. on collaborative activities, shared expertise and knowledge, and to develop a Blackboard template for online course offerings
  • To provide support and guidance to the university community and departments as it pertains to the advancement of learning
  • To provide feedback for the teaching and learning processes relative to the university’s mission in all modalities
  • To help establish an information literacy component in all academic programs
  • To keep abreast of changing federal policies impacting online learning and serve as a resource to the institution
  • To identify barriers and impediments to expanding online education and work toward resolution
  • To provide periodic reports, guidelines, and instructional material to support online education
