Descendant film screening and panel discussion

April 18, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Honor the spirit of D.C. Emancipation Day by joining us for a powerful story of Black liberation and history! The new documentary film Descendant follows the descendants of the Clotilda -- the last known ship to carry enslaved Africans to the U.S. -- as they reclaim their history in Africatown, Alabama, the town their ancestors founded. This is a powerful story of liberation and land, rooted in community oral histories. Join us for a screening of the film, followed by a panel discussion with COREY SHAW (UDC ‘22), JAMES LENNOX (UDC ‘23), and LINDA MANN (Co-founder of the African American Redress Network) as they discuss the film and make connections to their work on oral history and reparations. Tuesday, April 18, 2023 | 6:00-8:30 PM |UDC Student Center Ballroom, 4200 Conn., Ave, NW Refreshments provided! Please RSVP at this link so that we can ensure sufficient refreshments. Co-sponsored by the UDC Oral History Club and the Political Science Program. For more information, contact Dr. Amanda Huron, at amanda.huron@udc.edu.
