Elmira T. Asongwed – Digital Learning Advocate to Advance Teaching and Learning
Elmira T. Asongwed, DNP, MS, RN, CNE

Dr. Elmira Asongwed joined UDC in 1973 and currently serves as an Associate Professor and Community Health Nursing Specialist in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. With a rich background spanning clinical, educational, and public health settings since 1971, including experience in Cameroon, Africa, she imparts her expertise to various levels of nursing students. Professor Asongwed prioritizes achieving learning outcomes, emphasizing effective course design, accessible materials, and integrating technologies for student engagement.
Despite the online nursing program being fully developed in Blackboard 9.1, Dr. Asongwed recognized the potential of Blackboard Ultra. Joining the pilot in Fall 2021, she actively redesigned courses to incorporate Blackboard Ultra technologies during her Christmas break. She immersed herself in the Blackboard Ultra system, asking questions, highlighting challenges, and providing valuable feedback that enhanced Blackboard Ultra training and contributed to the successful project rollout in the summer of 2021. Now, Professor Asongwed collaborates with colleagues to certify all nursing courses as Quality Matters-certified courses. Additionally, she is working to explore immersive technologies for integration into her nursing courses.
