Freshman computer science major Isaiah Daniel was named East Coast Conference (ECC)’s Rookie of the Year for men’s soccer, the first in program history.

Five UDC students earned All-Conference honors in men’s soccer. Daniel earned Second-Team Honors. Axel Gamez, a sophomore business management major, received First-Team All-Conference Honors. Keino Thompson, a senior mechanical engineering major, earned Second-Team honors.

Sergio Becerra and Santiago Gordillo Martinez, both junior business management majors, received Third Team Honors.

Two UDC student-athletes received the ECC Elite 20 Award for 2023-2024 given to student-athletes with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing in each ECC 20 championship tournament.

The ECC Elite 20 is modeled after the NCAA Elite 90, which recognizes “the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.”

Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, be an active roster member and be eligible for the championship. They can win the award only once per academic year, even if they participate in more than one sport.

Graduate students are also eligible for the award. However, only their undergraduate GPA will count and they must be in good standing academically with their university.

Claudia Bahamon, a junior mechanical engineering major who plays women’s tennis, won the ECC Elite 20 Award and was presented with it during the semi-finals of the Women’s Tennis Championships. Iyanna Jackson, a junior accounting major who runs in cross country, also earned the award.

Freshman Polina Zelentsova earned East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year for Women’s Tennis. Seniors Laura Marie, a business management major, and Mariona Franco, a mechanical engineering major, earned ECC Second-Team All-Conference Honors.

Congratulations to all student-athletes on their awards!
