Bessie Stockard, professor of Health Science at UDC, with tennis legend Billie Jean King at the Women’s Final Four during March Madness on March 31 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. The two played on the Virginia Slims tour together in the 1970s. Professor Stockard was the first Black assistant for @usabasketball. Stockard is a Tuskegee Hall of Famer, a District of Columbia Sports Hall of Famer and a UDC Athletics Hall of Famer. She is also being featured in the upcoming ESPN documentary, “If Not for Them” for her impact on women’s basketball at Federal City College and USA Basketball.
