Psychology alumna counsels patients and supports future therapists
As a seventh grader, Ashley Peterson suffered from undiagnosed ADHD and hypersensitivity to light and sound. But it was the advocacy of her mother and a school counselor that turned her life around. Today, she is helping others as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), specializing in psychotherapy.
Alumna works to improve lives at Bainum Family Foundation
Some people talk about solving problems and then some do it. After starting as an early childhood educator and seeing the many challenges, Marica Cox Mitchell credits UDC with inspiring her to be a catalyst for change. She now serves as vice president, early childhood for the Bainum Family Foundation.
First Miss UDC continues legacy of teaching, service and pageantry
Gail Jones is a nationally recognized teacher, nutrition expert and community leader. Crowned the first Miss University of the District of Columbia in 1977, she went on to win numerous pageants, as well as awards for teaching and community service. Jones (’80) spent two years at Federal City College as a home economics education major before it became part of the merger to establish the University of the District of Columbia in 1976.
