UDC alum Fikir Kebede was recognized by Interior Design Magazine as a recipient of their 30 under 30 Designer Award. Recipients are nominated by their respective firms for their dedication and stellar work.

Kebede was chosen for the honor by Barbara Mullenex, executive director of Perkins Eastman, a global architecture and design firm based in DC that believes design can have a positive, lasting impact on people’s lives.

The announcement was made on Perkins Eastman’s Instagram page on October 19.

Kebede started her role as an architectural designer at Perkins Eastman in June 2022 after the firm’s principals met her through the National Organization of Minority Architects’ HBCU professional development program.

She was one of four young designers from Perkins Eastman to be recognized.

“This past week, I had the pleasure of attending the Interior Design Magazine’s 30/30 program, which featured some of the area’s notable designers under the age of 30,” Kebede announced on her LinkedIn page.

“The event included a series of entertaining and engaging workshops that addressed some of the difficulties we might face as designers and how to improve in our careers, followed by a happy hour networking session with our sponsors. Thank you to our principal, Barbara Mullenex, AIA for the nominations, and congrats to everyone on this great honor! I’m looking forward to learning more and growing as a designer from the wonderful network of experts in my area!” she added.
