City Administrator visits Bertie Backus Campus

City Administrator Kevin Donahue, CAUSES Associate Dean William Hare, DOEE Liaison to UDC & DC Public Schools, Julie Lawson, DOEE Chief of Sustainability & Equity Branch, Urban Sustainability Administration, Lillian Power, Bertie Backus Food Hub Manager Kyra Moore, Master Gardener Cheryl Dixon, and UDC Associate Farm Manager Mike Whyte.

Appointed by Mayor Muriel Bowser in January 2021, Kevin Donahue serves as the City Administrator for DC Government, overseeing the day-to-day operations, setting performance metrics and goals, and implementing legislative actions and policy decisions of the Mayor and the DC Council. Donahue recently toured the sustainable gardens, greenhouses and commercial kitchen at UDC’s Bertie Backus Campus. Many farming innovations, such as the digitally powered grow house that can produce an acre’s-worth of kale, were funded by the Department of Energy and Environment’s Sustainable DC Plan.
