“The State Must Provide,” discusses book and racial inequality in higher education

In conjunction with the UDC Board of Trustees, please join the College of Arts and Sciences for the CAS Reads Big spring 2022 lecture tonight, April 7, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. The featured author is Adam Harris, who will discuss his latest book, “The State Must Provide: Why America’s Colleges Have Always Been Unequal—and How to Set Them Right.” RSVP Here

The book is described as “…the definitive chronicle of higher education’s failed attempts at equality and the long road still in front of us to remedy centuries of racial discrimination—and poses a daring solution to help solve the underfunding of HBCUs.” Told through a vivid cast of characters, “The State Must Provide” examines why “higher education remains broken today.”

This CAS Reads Big event will be held in the  Van Ness campus’ Student Center, Main Ballroom, 4200 Connecticut Avenue NW. Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to attend.  Registration is required for this event, which is free and open to the public. Masks are required and must be worn by all people attending the event and while on the University campus.
