College of Arts and Sciences hosts lecture on pioneering journalist Herbert Denton Jr.

Please join the College of Arts and Sciences on Wednesday, March 23, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., for a lecture and discussion on the life and times of Herbert Denton Jr.  A pioneering journalist at The Washington Post, he began working as a reporter there in 1968 and became the paper’s first Black city editor in 1976, putting him in charge of all coverage of the District of Columbia. During the lecture, Denton’s biographer, Benji de la Piedra will discuss Denton’s coverage of local public education, including the city’s first elected school board, and his coverage of the early years of Federal City College, one of UDC’s predecessor institutions.
