Overview
The Talent Capital initiative is a regionally coordinated response to the anticipated displacement of approximately 40,000 federal employees due to federal downsizing — a development that poses a significant threat to the District’s economic stability and workforce vitality. This initiative seeks to establish a unified “front door” across the DMV region, connecting displaced federal workers to high-demand, future-ready career pathways. It also presents a powerful opportunity to highlight the role of higher education institutions in workforce transformation and economic resilience.
The first phase of the initiative features certification programs in Project Management and Data Science/AI Applications. These offerings are specifically designed to align with the transferable skills and professional experiences of displaced federal workers and are delivered through a network of university partners, online platforms and select community-based organizations.
As the District’s only public urban land-grant university, UDC is uniquely positioned to play a leading role in this effort. Below is an overview of the programs and support services UDC offers through the Talent Capital initiative to empower displaced federal workers to successfully transition into high-growth careers.
