The University of the District of Columbia has appointed Nakia Pugh as university registrar.
Pugh brings more than 15 years of higher education experience and a strong record of leadership in academic records administration, institutional policy, student information systems and regulatory compliance. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a commitment to operational excellence, data integrity and student-centered service.
Since 2024, Pugh has served as interim registrar, overseeing the Office of the Registrar during a period of institutional transition. She has directed registration, records management, academic scheduling, reporting, degree conferral and commencement activities. She also has served as the university’s primary authority on academic policy interpretation and strengthened compliance with accreditation standards, FERPA requirements and federal and state regulations.
Before her interim appointment, Pugh served as associate registrar from 2018 to 2024. In that role, she improved business processes and systems, strengthened internal controls and helped enhance data accuracy, audit readiness and the consistent administration of academic policies. She also led the university’s transfer credit evaluation process, helping ensure the equitable and accurate application of institutional standards.
Pugh joined UDC in 2014 as office manager in the Office of the Registrar, developing expertise in administrative and financial operations, process improvement and organizational effectiveness. Her previous experience at Howard University further strengthened her background in student services, academic records management and higher education administration.
As university registrar, Pugh will lead efforts to strengthen academic records administration and data governance, optimize student information systems and improve service for students, faculty and staff. Her institutional knowledge, collaborative leadership and commitment to excellence position her well to advance the university’s academic mission and strategic priorities.
