For learning technology tools and on-demand faculty resources, please visit CAL’s website.

Students: Due to inclement weather, the university will be closed to face-to-face operations. Instruction will be moved to emergency remote, including synchronous and asynchronous methods. Certain laboratory, clinical, and other hands-on classes for which in-person instruction is a requirement may necessitate a make-up lesson, but every effort will be made to pursue virtual learning to the extent possible. Where synchronous virtual instruction is intended, published class meeting times must be observed so that students’ schedules are not disrupted.

The safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and the broader community remain our top priority. We will continue to provide updates regarding the status of the university’s academic and administrative offices as conditions change.

Please continue to check our website and social media channels for the latest information.

If you have any safety concerns, contact OPSEM at 202-274-5050. For all immediate emergencies, call 911.

Thank you for your continued dedication to our students and to UDC’s mission.

Kemmell StewartThe Office of the Chief Academic Officer (OCAO) is pleased to announce Kemmell Stewart's appointment as the CAO's senior academic administrator. Stewart has been the long-serving coordinator of Communications, Planning, and Partnerships for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). She has been instrumental in implementing a series of innovative and collaborative initiatives that have extended the university's academic mission and resources beyond the classroom, enhancing student learning and invigorating the college's town-gown and partnership agendas.

Signature programs supported by Stewart include CAS Reads Big, a common read program that has engaged authors with local, national, and international acclaim and placed students, faculty members and community partners at the knees of leading experts on topics from climate change to food security. The leadership development program, hearmelead, was also shepherded by Stewart and initiated with external funding that she identified and helped secure. Under Stewart's direction, CAS developed creative marketing and fundraising campaigns and grew its partner base significantly. Its signature graphics have won praise across the campus community and beyond.

Known by all as a committed and caring Firebird, Stewart is a proud UDC alum with a degree in history. Before joining UDC CAS, Stewart worked at the American Association of University Women and led similar efforts. The OCAO is pleased to welcome her and excited to benefit from her expertise and gifts for engaging community members with professionalism and kindness.

Stewart begins her service with the OCAO on April 7. All correspondence for the office should be routed through her.
