Short-term Study Abroad Education Travel Program (SSAETP)

The Short-term Study Abroad Education Travel Program was established as an annual program by the Division of Student Success and Development and is hosted by the Center for Diversity, Inclusion & Multicultural Affairs. The SSAETP is an expenses-paid, experiential learning opportunity. Travel Scholarships are one aspect of our investment in UDC students’ academic, intellectual and professional success at UDC, as we understand it is our responsibility to create educational opportunities that will influence the potential shift in a student’s worldview. This year, the inaugural cohort  will be visiting  Accra, Ghana, during the “Year of Return.” The year 2019 marks exactly 400 years since 1619, when the first enslaved Africans came to Jamestown, VA, aboard a Portuguese slave ship that had been captured in the West Indies. This is widely recognized as the start of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, during which millions of Africans were kidnapped from their villages and brought to America.
