Mental Health Awareness Month

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), in the United States, one in five adults experience serious mental illness each year, and one in six youth aged six to seventeen experience a mental health disorder each year. If you need mental health support, we encourage you to seek assistance through the University’s available counseling resources. Students can visit the Counseling and Wellness Center or call 202.274.6000 to make an appointment. Employees can contact the Inova Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at 800.346.0110. Certified clinicians can also help you 24/7 through the DC Department of Behavioral Health’s mental health hotline at 888.793.4357.

In this issue, UDC Forward shines a spotlight on the Psychology Program and alumna Ashley Peterson, a licensed professional counselor who received her master’s degree in mental health counseling from the University.
