UDC Operating Remotely Through Wednesday, Jan. 28

The University of the District of Columbia’s academic and administrative offices will conduct business remotely on Tuesday, January 27 and Wednesday, January 28. All on-campus activities, including athletic-related activities, are cancelled.

Staff: Contact your immediate supervisor with questions or for further instruction regarding remote work expectations. 

Faculty: Reach out to your immediate supervisor and/or the dean for questions and further instruction regarding the transition to emergency remote instruction (ERI).  The Center for the Advancement of Learning (CAL) is available to support faculty with instructional continuity, including support for Blackboard, Zoom, Webex and other teaching and learning technologies.

Students: Due to inclement weather, the university will be closed to face-to-face operations. Instruction will be moved to emergency remote, including synchronous and asynchronous methods. Certain laboratory, clinical, and other hands-on classes for which in-person instruction is a requirement may necessitate a make-up lesson, but every effort will be made to pursue virtual learning to the extent possible. Where synchronous virtual instruction is intended, published class meeting times must be observed so that students’ schedules are not disrupted.

The safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and the broader community remain our top priority. We will continue to provide updates regarding the status of the university’s academic and administrative offices as conditions change.

2026 UDC Capital Cup Entrepreneurship Competition

President Edington and the three young men who won the 2025 CupThe University of the District of Columbia (UDC) invites high school innovators from around the world to participate in the 2026 UDC Capital Cup, a global entrepreneurship competition based in Washington, D.C.

History

UDC Capital Cup Entrepreneurship Competition was originally sponsored by the CIBER at Georgia Tech, Funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Overview

The Capital Cup challenges students to develop a new business or product/service concept with international market potential and present their venture to a panel of judges at UDC.

Eligibility

  • Open to high school students worldwide.
  • Teams of up to three students.
  • English-only competition.

  • June 30 – Registration Deadline
  • July 15 – Qualifier Results Released
  • August 13 – Finals at UDC in Washington, D.C.

Competition Format

  • Qualifying Round: Video pitch (online)
  • Finals: In-person pitches at UDC

Registration

Finalists are responsible for all travel, lodging, and visa arrangements.

Qualifying Overview

  1. The participants must fully complete and submit the online registration form.
  2. Registration Deadline is June 30, 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time.
  3. The participants will research the global marketplace and then propose an entrepreneurial product/service to bring to market. They should explain why, based on this research, they believe in this product/service and its market potential.
  4. The participants will then pitch this new product/service idea based on a specific target market segment and create the promotion, pricing, and distribution strategies to bring it to market.
  5. The participants will then present their findings to the Capital Cup Committee in a video that is a maximum of four minutes (no more than 240 seconds) in length, posted on YouTube.
  6. Videos over four (4) minutes (more than 240 seconds) in length will not be evaluated and will not be eligible for awards.
  7. The video should be uploaded to YouTube.
  8. Each team has NO more than 3 members.
  9. UDC Capital Cup Committee will evaluate all submitted video presentations and select the top five overall teams to attend the face-to-face final competition on Thursday, Aug. 13, in Washington, D.C. From the final five teams, the overall winning team will be selected.
