This week marks the completion of President Maurice D. Edington's first three years as president of the University of the District of Columbia.
In a message to the Firebird community, Edington reflected on the university's accomplishments during the past three years, thanked those who have helped advance UDC's mission and shared his optimism for the future.
"This week marks the completion of my first three years as president of the University of the District of Columbia," Edington said. "Tonya Edington, UDC's first lady, and I are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve this extraordinary institution and the residents of Washington, D.C."
Edington said the past three years have focused on building a strong foundation for the university's future.
"These past three years have been dedicated to building a strong foundation for UDC's future," he said. "Together, we have launched a bold five-year strategic plan, restored enrollment growth, strengthened student success, expanded academic opportunities and elevated the university's national profile."
He also highlighted the university's success in securing new investments that continue to expand opportunities for students and strengthen the institution.
"We have also secured historic levels of investment through philanthropic support, significant federal funding for research and strategic initiatives, and transformative partnerships with corporate, government and community leaders," Edington said. "These investments are creating new opportunities for our students while strengthening UDC's role as the District's engine for educational opportunity, workforce development and economic mobility."
Edington emphasized that the university's progress reflects the collective efforts of the entire UDC community.
"None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, Board of Trustees, Foundation Board, District government leaders, donors and community partners," he said. "Every milestone we have achieved reflects our shared commitment to our mission and to the success of the students and communities we serve."
Looking ahead to the university's fourth year under his leadership, Edington said he remains confident in UDC's continued momentum.
"As we begin our fourth year together, I am more optimistic than ever about UDC's future," he said. "We have built a strong foundation, and our momentum continues to grow. Together, as One UDC, we will continue Turning Potential into Power by unlocking the promise of our students, strengthening our communities, and advancing the future of the University of the District of Columbia."
Edington concluded by thanking the Firebird community for its continued support and commitment to the university.
"Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey," he said. "It is a tremendous honor to serve as president of this remarkable university, and I look forward to all we will accomplish together in the years ahead."
