Ahead of the winter weather storm, Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a State of Emergency for the District beginning Friday, Jan 23. Mayor Bowser also declared a snow emergency that will go into Saturday, Jan. 24, and will stay in effect until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

All administrative and academic offices within the University of the District of Columbia will be closed effective 5 p.m. EST on Friday, Jan. 23, until 9:30 a.m. EST on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

The safety and security of our students, faculty, staff and the broader community remain our top priority. We will continue to provide updates regarding the status of the university’s administrative and academic offices as conditions change.

Frenika Rivers

Frenika RiversFrenika Rivers is an experienced higher education executive currently serving as Chief of Staff to the President at the University of the District of Columbia. In this role, she supports presidential leadership, coordinates executive and Cabinet priorities, and ensures alignment among the President’s Office, the Board of Trustees, and institutional operations.

Her professional background includes extensive experience in board governance, student services, accreditation support, and philanthropic engagement. Frenika is known for her ability to translate strategy into action, strengthen institutional processes, and steward complex initiatives within higher education environments.

She holds a master’s degree in sociology from American University and a master’s degree in theology from Wesley Theological Seminary, and she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Palmer Theological Seminary. Her scholarly interests include leadership, vocation, and organizational transformation. Frenika lives with her family in Ward 4.
