Admissions Assessment Information

Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS)

CASAS provides testing of basic and academic skills for youth and adults and curriculum. CASAS are valid and reliable for native and non-native English speakers and assess reading, math, listening, speaking and writing from the lowest literacy levels to high school exit and transition to postsecondary education, training and the workforce. The United States Department of Education and the United States Department of Labor have approved these assessments.

Northstar

Northstar was developed in response to the needs of job seekers who may lack the digital literacy skills needed to seek, obtain and retain employment, as well as to perform other tasks in daily life. Northstar Digital Literacy defines the basic skills needed to use a computer and the internet in daily life, employment and higher education. The assessment includes basic computer digital literacy standards and modules in three main areas:

  1. Essential Computer Skills — Phone, Keyboard Basics and Logging In, Basic Computer Skills, Internet Basics, Using Email, Windows, Mac OS
  2. Essential Software Skills — Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Docs
  3. Using Technology in Daily Life — Social Media, Information Literacy, Career Search Skills, Accessing Telehealth Appointments, Supporting K-12 Distance Learning
