The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) welcomes alumnus Marc Battle to its Board of Trustees, where he will serve through May 15, 2030, following his July 14 confirmation by the Council of the District of Columbia. Battle fills the vacant seat previously held by Christopher Bell.
A 1999 graduate of UDC with a bachelor's degree in print journalism, Battle is a partner in Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP's Washington office, where he advises clients on public affairs, governance and regulatory matters. He previously served as chief legal officer and executive vice president of government affairs at DC Water, overseeing the utility's legal, regulatory and policy functions.
"Marc Battle embodies the values of public service and leadership that define the University of the District of Columbia," said President Maurice D. Edington. "As an accomplished alumnus with deep experience in public policy and strategic leadership, he brings valuable insight to our Board of Trustees as we continue advancing UDC's mission and vision for the future."
Throughout his career, Battle has held senior leadership positions with Potomac Electric Power Company, served as counsel for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the Council of the District of Columbia and the US Congress, and has been active in the DC Chamber of Commerce and other civic and nonprofit organizations across the region. He currently serves on the boards of the DC Public Library Foundation and Georgetown Day School.

The 15-member Board of Trustees serves as the governing body of the university, providing strategic oversight and advancing UDC's mission as the District's only public institution of higher education and the nation's only exclusively urban land-grant university.
