UDC Facilities Update — Tuesday, Nov. 3

Buildings 32 and 42 are expected to remain closed through Nov. 10. This date is our current estimate and is subject to change pending ongoing evaluations and the safe restoration of the affected electrical systems.

The continued closure of Buildings 32 and 42 will affect School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) operations as well as the operations of the Art, Digital Media and Chemistry programs. This includes in-person instruction and certain campus activities housed within those facilities. Emergency Remote Instruction (ERI) will remain in effect for impacted courses.

Dr. Briana Wellman Receives Technology Rising Star Award

Dr, Briana WellmanDr. Briana Wellman, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology has received the Technology Rising Star Award, from the Career Communications Group during the 2023 Women of Color STEM DTX Conference at Detroit Michigan during October 12-14, 2023. Technology Rising Star (WOC) awards are given to women (with 21 or fewer years in the workforce) who are helping to shape the technology for the future. They are honored at a special recognition event during the Women of Color STEM Awards Conference. As Chair of Computer Science and Information Technology for the last six years, Dr Wellman provided leadership in creating new programs including a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering. Besides her research accomplishments in federal funded grants, Dr Wellman was instrumental in collaborative programs with Amazon Next, Microsoft Corporation, Advanced Technology Center and Lockheed Martin Corp.
