Ahead of the winter weather storm, Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a State of Emergency for the District beginning Friday, Jan 23. Mayor Bowser also declared a snow emergency that will go into Saturday, Jan. 24, and will stay in effect until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

All administrative and academic offices within the University of the District of Columbia will be closed effective 5 p.m. EST on Friday, Jan. 23, until 9:30 a.m. EST on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

The safety and security of our students, faculty, staff and the broader community remain our top priority. We will continue to provide updates regarding the status of the university’s administrative and academic offices as conditions change.

Future Firebirds from Genesys Works tour the Campus

Dr. William Latham, Gabriel Panameno, Axel Orellana, Jaheim Smith, Selvon Waldron and Nailah Williams touring the Van Ness campus.

Top scholars and interns from Genesys Works had a UDC Van Ness campus tour on July 25, meeting with Dr. William Latham, chief student development and success officer, Nailah Williams, interim associate vice president for Enrollment Services and Latosha Baldwin, acting assistant vice president of Student Success. With plans to major in computer science or computer engineering, Axel Orellana, Gabriel Panamenu and Jaheim Smith look forward to attending UDC.

The rising Firebirds, who are also DC UP Scholars, were accompanied by the Executive Director of the National Capital Region at Genesys Works Selvon Waldron—a UDC alum (’08, BBA, ’11, MBA). “The day was very special,” he said. “My UDC education transformed me into the nonprofit leader and social activist I am today. I am humbled to support our students as they begin their journey at my alma mater.”

Genesys Works is a 20-year-old national nonprofit actively engaged in expanding career pathways and opportunities for youth from underserved communities by providing training, support and internships.
