The University of the District of Columbia’s 48th Commencement will take place on Saturday, May 10, at 10 a.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. A live stream of the Commencement ceremony will be available for all who want to help celebrate our graduating students.

This is a closed event. Only ticketed guests will be admitted. Credentialed media should RSVP to Rachel Perrone at rachel.perrone@udc.edu.

C. Brian Williams to Deliver Commencement Address

UDC will hold its 48th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 10, at 10 a.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. C. Brian Williams, the founder and executive producer of Step Afrika!, will give the keynote address. Williams is originally from Houston, Texas. In 2022, he was honored as a National Heritage Fellow by the National Endowment for the Arts, the highest recognition in folk and traditional arts in the United States. His work is prominently displayed at the Smithsonian's Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C.

Commencement Logistics

Requirements for Guests

  • Each participating graduate is allowed to receive six invitations and admit cards so that guests can attend the commencement ceremony.
  • Tickets are required for admittance to the Commencement Hall. 
  • Guests must have their tickets.
  • Children three and older will require a ticket. An adult must accompany children at all times.

  • Backpacks and large bags over 14"x14"
