Information for Parents

UDC Community College (Associate degree programs):

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent

UDC Flagship University (Bachelor’s degree programs):

• 2.5 high school grade point average and 890 SAT or 16 ACT score; OR
• 2.0 – 2.49 and 1030 SAT or a score of 19 on ACT or better

Applicants who do not meet the Flagship University admissions standards, including those who have been out of school for more than three years, can take the ACCUPLACER exam. Students must achieve the following ACCUPLACER scores make applicants eligible for admission to UDC’s Flagship University:

• English score: 86
• Math score: 85
• Reading score: 78

Transferring to the Community College (Associate degree programs):

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• Not currently on academic probation or suspension at another college or university (There is a one-year waiting period for those who’ve been academically dismissed from their last school.)

Transferring to the Flagship University (Bachelor’s degree programs):

• 24 college credits or more and an aggregate grade point average of 2.0 or higher
• Less than 24 college credits with a high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher

There are slight variations in the admissions process for first-time students and for transfer students. In general, UDC requires students to:

1. Complete the online application.
2. Pay a non-refundable application fee (currently waived).
3. Submit official high school transcripts or copy of GED diploma and test scores (or equivalent).
4. Submit official SAT or ACT test scores (if applying to UDC’s Flagship University) or submit official transcripts from other colleges or universities attended.

Based on a series of questions about a family’s financial situation, UDC’s college cost estimate tool provides information about what similar students have paid to attend UDC, including sample financial aid packages. Many families, especially those sending students to college for the first time, find this new college cost tool helpful.

The following students are not eligible for financial aid at UDC:

• International students
• Non-degree-seeking students
• Students who have not met UDC Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards by exceeding the maximum time allowed for academic program completion (typically happens if students change schools or majors several times)
• Students currently under Suspension Status for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Before families begin the financial aid application process, have them review these required steps:

1. Make sure the student is eligible for financial aid.
2. Apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid.
3. Gather all documents needed to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). A new IRS data retrieval tool makes this process faster and easier.
4. Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
5. Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) when it arrives
6. Review your Financial Aid Letter.
7. Provide any additional documents requested.
