DC Assistant Professor Dr. Sulare (Telford) Rose

UDC Assistant Professor Dr. Sulare (Telford) Rose has been selected as a 2023 American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Convergence Fellow. The program is designed to serve as a principal driver for fostering, promoting and promulgating the ideas, discoveries and innovations of women who are Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) to combat gender exclusion in STEM.

The fellowship applies a holistic approach to entrepreneurship. Each fellow will receive a $15,000 grant, early entrepreneurial education, access to mentors and connections to an investor network.

The program covers the following topics: business modeling, funding opportunities, leadership, marketing and branding, protecting intellectual property, and racism and sexism in STEM.

Rose’s long-term goal is to create culturally authentic and linguistically appropriate AI voice-assisted screen-based conversational technology for speech-language pathologists to leverage in improving the math learning skills of Latino/a kindergartners that center their language, sociocultural norms and ways of being.

Rose will use the grant funds to conduct research and collect data that will be integral in developing the technology.
