Anacostia High School Students Explore Environmental Justice Through DAWN Initiative Internship

 

On August 3, 11 students from Anacostia High School gave presentations on a series of environmental topics—including the “heat island” effect, green roof systems and the health of the Anacostia River—at the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) in the culmination of the Environmental Justice Initiative Summer Internship Program. The six-week program, a Pepco-sponsored partnership between UDC’s DAWN Initiative and DOI, provides opportunities for students to meet with leaders in their community and tour sites throughout the District as they explore environmental justice issues and possible careers.
