UDC honors historic Juneteenth Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, two and a half years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation to ensure the enslaved were freed. The University will be closed on June 19 in observance of this historically significant holiday.
