Cultural Public Citizen Diplomacy Certificate event

His Excellency Marten Schalkwijk of the Republic of Suriname swore in over 75 students as Cultural Public Citizen Diplomats on October 20.

The College of Arts and Sciences held its Cultural Public Citizen Diplomacy (CPCD) Certificate event on Thursday, October 20, at the Van Ness Campus Student Center with over a hundred people in attendance. The event is organized for students who study U.S. foreign policy, security and global institutions and world comparative criminal justice systems and other courses. The event also encourages students to build relationships in their communities and to connect with citizens of other countries. Students hosted discussions and participated in interactive discussions with their colleagues, faculty and guests. In addition, students were presented with non-academic citizen diplomat certificates as they committed to building bridges within communities and between nations. The students’ first duty will be to vote in the upcoming midterm elections.
