CDIMA Pillars

Social Justice: a political and philosophical concept which holds that all people should have equal access to wealth, health, wellbeing, justice and opportunity. It provides a lens that enables us to work towards cultivating change that positively impacts those who are often silenced, ignored or underrepresented.

Global Education: requires students to participate in programs, internships and activities that address global issues of a political, cultural, social, environmental or cultural nature. Participation in Global Education increases students’ ability to develop various competencies in a variety of contexts.

Community Building: an intentional effort to cultivate student engagement activities that foster relationships across various targeted student populations in order to assist with learning, camaraderie and inclusion.

Political Engagement: activities that require students to take action to address issues that impact marginalized or underrepresented communities. Civic engagement opportunities will increase their personal sense of responsibility to politically engage in either advocating for policies, structures and practices that improve the conditions for marginalized people or dismantle the policies, structures and practices that disenfranchise them.

Leadership Development: investment through sponsored activities or programs that will enhance the leadership and confidence of historically marginalized students to assist in producing lifelong learners who are transformative leaders throughout the campus community and global society.
