Michael Tannen is Associate Professor of Management in the School of Business and Public Administration (SBPA), UDC. He teaches courses in Operations Management, Decision Theory, Spreadsheet Analytics, and Managerial Economics. Before joining UDC in 2006 he served as Visiting Professor at the United States Naval Academy. In a prior position, he was Senior Operations Researcher (evaluation of health benefits programs) at the U.S. Department of Defense (receiving Secretary’s meritorious award. .
Michael received an MBA and a BBA from the Baruch School of Business and a Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University. He has published over 70 research papers, and authored numerous reports for Federal Government Agencies and The Congress. He also provided oral and written testimony in a half dozen airline merger proceedings and a National Railroad Emergency Board Proceeding. As to overall impact, ResearchGate reports Michael’s ‘Research Interest Score is higher than 75% of researchers with work related to Business Administration,’ while Google Scholar indicates his work has over 300 citations.
Following the onset of the COVID pandemic and greater online instruction he became interested in evaluating and tailoring alternative methods of presenting the material specifically to UDC students to better promote understanding. This included making class recordings available, substituting slides he composed in full sentences, and providing real world applications. Evaluation process is ongoing.
