Dr. Jasmine Noelle Yarish (Dr. JNY), assistant professor of Political Science, coordinator of the Global Studies concentration, and the UDC faculty co-coordinator of the UDC-DACOR Mentorship Program, along with other principal investigators—the DACOR Bacon Foundation and Tom Brannan, chair of DACOR’s public outreach committee—received a $25,000 grant entitled “Capacity Building Grant for Humanities Organizations” from the Humanities Council of Washington, D.C. (HumanitiesDC).
This award will help bring the DACOR Bacon House and its museum to life as a teaching tool and help build a strong foundation for the expansion of the UDC-DACOR partnership, including its mentorship program. It will also support the growth of UDC’s global studies curriculum. As part of the grant activities, Dr. JNY is leading a practicum course of six political science majors consisting of prior and current UDC-DACOR mentees throughout the fall 2022 term in the development of a new course entitled “Global Archives in D.C.” to be offered in spring 2023. Two of those students, Anthony Olweny and Isabella Munoz Huaman, have been selected as DAWN Research Fellows.
