Early Childhood Policy Certificate

Program Overview

Early Childhood Policy Certificate

The University of the District of Columbia's Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Policy prepares future leaders, advocates, and policymakers to make a lasting difference in the lives of young children and their families. This 18-credit standalone program is designed for professionals who already hold a master's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field and want to extend their impact beyond the classroom.

The Early Childhood Policy program reflects the university's longstanding commitment to social justice, equity and high-quality education for all.

What You'll Learn

Students explore the policies and systems that shape children's earliest years, including health, mental health, nutrition, child care, family support, child protection and equity. Coursework builds the skills needed to:

  • Analyze early childhood policy at the local, state and federal levels.
  • Lead organizations and contribute to policymaking.
  • Advocate effectively for young children and families.
  • Understand and apply research to real-world policy issues.

Real-World Experience

The program ends with a summer internship at a local agency or organization. Students apply their leadership and policy skills in a professional setting, build partnerships, and complete a policy project that shows an interdisciplinary approach to early childhood issues.

Who Should Apply

This certificate is ideal for educators, administrators and early childhood professionals who want to influence the systems that serve young children, whether through leadership, advocacy, research or public policy.
