Melba Broome has served as director of the University of the District of Columbia’s Learning Resources Division and University Library since 2007, providing visionary leadership for the university’s library system. With more than 30 years of experience in academic library leadership, she brings extensive expertise in information services, technology and administration.
Broome has guided the library through significant changes brought on by the digital age. Under her direction, the library transitioned to digital collections and services. She also leads campus-wide digital literacy initiatives, helping students and faculty develop the skills needed to critically evaluate and create digital content.
With a strong focus on user needs and service quality, Broome collaborates with campus stakeholders to align library strategies. Her inclusive and consultative leadership style ensures diverse voices are heard when addressing complex challenges. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a talent for building consensus among differing perspectives, crafting a unified vision for the library. Her adaptive approach enables the library to respond effectively to the evolving information landscape.
