New Employees/New Appointments

Dr. Tony Johnson

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Tony Johnson into our Firebird family. He has been appointed as the entry of a new Dean of Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning within the University of the District of Columbia Community College (UDC-CC). Dr. Johnson will begin his employment with UDC-CC on March 16, 2017.

Dr. Johnson comes to UDC-CC from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education, where he served as the D.C. State Director for the Office of Career and Technical Education and Chief for State Managed Schools.

Dr. Johnson has an earned doctoral degree in Leadership Policy and Evaluation and a master’s degree in Public Administration and Public Policy from Florida State University. He has over ten years of experience in secondary and post-secondary education with a focus in Career and Technical Education. In addition, Dr. Johnson has experience in:

• Administration of academic and community based education programs
• Planning and implementing student success strategies
• Directing work force programs at Tallahassee Community College
• Developing and implementation of professional development programs for faculty and staff
• Federal and local grant implementation and management
• Program assessment

Please offer him your knowledge, expertise and guidance as he transitions and endeavors to excel in his post for the benefit of our students, college, and community.

Dr. Marilyn Hamilton

I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Marilyn Hamilton has been appointed as the Dean of Academic Affairs with the University of the District of Columbia Community College (UDC-CC).   Dr. Hamilton’s appointment became effective on March 1, 2017.

Dr. Hamilton has served as the Acting Dean of Academic Affairs at UDC-CC from April 1, 2014 through February 28, 2017.  She served as college Co-Team Leader for Achieving the Dream and Complete College America.  Within this past year, she has worked diligently with Nursing and Mortuary Science program instructors toward accreditation.

Dr. Hamilton has expertise in:

  • Administering academic programs in a postsecondary environment
  • Planning and implementing student success strategies
  • Managing accreditation processes for both regional and professional accreditors
  • Sixteen year of experience within postsecondary education
  • Six years of progressive experience within a community college environment as: instructor, Assistant Academic Dean and Acting Academic Dean

Dr. Hamilton received a doctoral degree in Educational Technology from Walden University and a master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Howard University.
