The University of the District of Columbia’s academic and administrative offices will conduct business remotely on Tuesday, January 27 and Wednesday, January 28. All on-campus activities, including athletic related activities, are cancelled.

Staff: Contact your immediate supervisor with questions or for further instruction regarding remote work expectations.

Faculty: Reach out to your immediate supervisor and/or the dean for questions and further instruction regarding the transition to emergency remote instruction (ERI).  The Center for the Advancement of Learning (CAL) is available to support faculty with instructional continuity, including support for Blackboard, Zoom, Webex and other teaching and learning technologies.

For learning technology tools and on-demand faculty resources, please visit CAL’s website.

Students: Due to inclement weather, the university will be closed to face-to-face operations. Instruction will be moved to emergency remote, including synchronous and asynchronous methods. Certain laboratory, clinical, and other hands-on classes for which in-person instruction is a requirement may necessitate a make-up lesson, but every effort will be made to pursue virtual learning to the extent possible. Where synchronous virtual instruction is intended, published class meeting times must be observed so that students’ schedules are not disrupted.

The safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and the broader community remain our top priority. We will continue to provide updates regarding the status of the university’s academic and administrative offices as conditions change.

Please continue to check our website and social media channels for the latest information.

If you have any safety concerns, contact OPSEM at 202-274-5050. For all immediate emergencies, call 911.
Thank you for your continued dedication to our students and to UDC’s mission.

Social Work Graduation Students

Social Work - BSW

Program Overview

Bachelor of Social Work

Take your first step towards a rewarding career in your community with a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of the District of Columbia. During your time in the program, your learning experiences won't just be confined to the classroom. At UDC, we offer lessons in real-world settings to prepare you for work with a variety of social populations (youth, older adults, returning citizens, etc.) and areas of practice (child welfare, education, behavioral health, etc.). Among these, you will receive access to hands-on research opportunities, service-learning experiences, social justice initiatives and other outreach activities.

A robust and inclusive curriculum calls for an experienced team of educators, which is why UDC's learning experiences are facilitated within an immersive environment by our skilled faculty, each of whom possesses a variety of knowledge and skills and who serve as both instructors and mentors.

The Social Work program at UDC was strategically designed to help you develop the foundational skills you'll need to become the competent professional or community leader you've always dreamed of being. You'll learn strategies on how to address the wide array of issues our local communities and society at large are facing. As a social work generalist, you'll have the knowledge and skills required for practice with individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations, with a focus on urban living and multicultural populations.

By participating in our curriculum, you'll be sure to develop various values and experiences within the field. These values include an emphasis on an appreciation for ethics and social justice. The curriculum also features a senior practicum experience, allowing you to demonstrate your ability to apply what you have learned to work with those in need in agency settings.
