UDC Calvin Jones BIG BAND Jazz Festival, Monday, April 29

Join us at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) for the annual Calvin Jones BIG BAND Jazz Festival on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 8:00 PM. This year, we celebrate the resonant big band sound with performances by leading jazz ensembles from the University of the District of Columbia (directed by Allyn Johnson), Howard University (directed by Fred Irby III), and the University of Maryland (directed by Mark Williams). The festival will honor Duke Ellington’s 125th birthday and pay tribute to Fred Irby III for his half-century of dedication to jazz education and his role as the founder and director of the Howard University Jazz Ensemble.

The event is brought to you by the UDC Jazz Studies Program and the Felix E. Grant Jazz Archives. Since its inception in 1987 as part of a citywide tribute to Duke Ellington, the festival has grown into one of the most eagerly awaited events in Washington, DC’s jazz scene.
