Barrington D. Scott
Barrington D. Scott, is a lifetime public servant. Born in Washington D.C., and a product of the D.C. Public Schools, Mr. Scott attended Whittier Elementary School, Paul Junior High School, and Calvin Coolidge High School, where he played on the 1972-1973 City Championship Football Team. Barrington Scott, affectionately known as “Bo” earned his B.S. degree in Leisure Studies with a minor in Physical Education from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) in 1982.
While a student at UDC, Barrington’s activism with the student government led to his organizing D.C.-area universities to participate in the 1982 March on Washington, which was successful in advocating for legislation establishing a federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As a student athlete, Mr. Scott served as Co-Captain of the football team and received Division II Honorable Mention honors in 1979 for his stellar play.
Mr. Scott’s community service activities have included: several terms as an elected Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner and service as ANC 4B Chairman (for which he received a Lamond Riggs Community Leadership Award for his advocacy in healthcare issues, community safety, and building new recreation centers in Ward 4). Additionally, he was featured on the cover of DC North Magazine in recognition of his commitment to effective public service.
Barrington Scott is an experienced Board Member, having served in that capacity for numerous organizations throughout the Washington D.C., community, including the Historic Kappa House Restoration Foundation (charter member of the Board), Honorary Co-Chair of The Historic Kappa Heritage Trail, WKAY – 100 Mentoring Program, and the DC Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund, with an endowment of over $3,000,000.00.
Education always has been a central focus of Mr. Scott’s public service. In 1987, he became a Co-Founder of the Calvin Coolidge Alumni Association, the first such public high school alumni association incorporated in the District of Columbia. To date, fifty-six students have received scholarship money from this organization. In recognition of his commitment to public education, Mr. Scott has received two “City Council Resolutions “for his efforts to raise scholarships to send District High School Seniors to Colleges and Universities.”
In 2007 Mr. Scott, received an award from the “National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences” for his support of Education, Advocacy and Human Service Initiatives. He also served as Chairman and Co-Founder of the DC – Clash of the Titians Football Classic established in 1987. This rivalry-infused football game – between Calvin Coolidge High School and Theodore Roosevelt High School – draws a large crowd every year..
In addition to his public service, Mr. Scott is engaged in several community, fraternal and professional activities. He is a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc., and served as Polemarch (President) of the Washington (DC) Alumni Chapter in 1995-96. Mr. Scott’s leadership within the fraternity has earned him recognition as an awardee of both the Lamont Lawson Award (Highest Chapter Award) and the Eastern Province Meritorious Service Award (Highest Award in the Region for Service).
Barrington is an active member of Prince Hall Lodge #14, PHA, MWGLDC, Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine of North and South America and Jurisdictions, Inc. & the United Supreme Council-Grand Inspector General of the 33rd and last degree. He has served as operations manager of the renovation project at the Prince Hall & Eastern Star Center for Performing Arts (Ballroom) at the Historic Masonic Temple at 1000 U St. NW, Washington DC.
Professionally, Mr. Scott serves as the Director of Therapeutic Recreation at the Deanwood Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Northeast Washington, DC. His professional credentials include: Activity Director Certified ADC, Registered Recreational Therapist RRT, and Activities Director Board Certified AD-BC. Scott has served as the President of the D.C. Recreation Activities Coordinators Society, and on the Department of Consumers & Regulatory Affairs Licensing Board for Registered Recreational Therapists.
In addition to his other pursuits, Mr. Scott is an entrepreneur and business owner of a long standing entertainment company with many years of experience in marketing, advertising and event planning as CEO of Boulevard Entertainment, LLC. In that capacity, he has worked with some of the nation’s most noted artists in the entertainment industry. A dedicated family man, Barrington is immensely proud of his son, Barrington D. Scott II and grandchildren, Myanthony, Nyla, Alaya, Tre’ Barrington and Xiria.
Mr. Scott has been an enthusiastic supporter of his alma mater for many years, and he was proud to participate in the 2014 Kick-off “Brick & Paver Campaign”.
