Faculty: Reach out to your immediate supervisor and/or the dean for questions and further instruction regarding the transition to emergency remote instruction (ERI).  The Center for the Advancement of Learning (CAL) is available to support faculty with instructional continuity, including support for Blackboard, Zoom, Webex and other teaching and learning technologies.

For learning technology tools and on-demand faculty resources, please visit CAL’s website.

Students: Due to inclement weather, the university will be closed to face-to-face operations. Instruction will be moved to emergency remote, including synchronous and asynchronous methods. Certain laboratory, clinical, and other hands-on classes for which in-person instruction is a requirement may necessitate a make-up lesson, but every effort will be made to pursue virtual learning to the extent possible. Where synchronous virtual instruction is intended, published class meeting times must be observed so that students’ schedules are not disrupted.

The safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and the broader community remain our top priority. We will continue to provide updates regarding the status of the university’s academic and administrative offices as conditions change.

Please continue to check our website and social media channels for the latest information.

If you have any safety concerns, contact OPSEM at 202-274-5050. For all immediate emergencies, call 911.

Thank you for your continued dedication to our students and to UDC’s mission.

Quality Matters Testimonial - Annette Miles

Assistant Professor

The Quality Matters Rubric Update and the Seventh Edition workshop influenced the course design of HMDV 410 Adaptive Teaching and Learning in Early Childhood Education. Although the QM official course review process is rigorous, the suggestions from peer reviewers were helpful in ensuring measurable course goals and objectives aligned with activities, assessments, and instructional materials. I provided a video course tour demonstrating student navigation, an instructor’s introduction, and an overview of the course.

The rubric updates emphasized instructors stating how students will engage with each other and the instructor, clarifying when students can collaborate or work individually on assessments. Another update required instructors to demonstrate how Academic Integrity policies apply in assessments. Reflecting on these updates, I meticulously incorporated changes in my course, resulting in an informative and positive experience. Peer reviewers’ positive feedback solidified course goals and objectives alignment with activities, assessments, and instructional materials.

Quality Matters course certification signals to UDC students that faculty from higher learning institutions nationwide vetted the online course. The Quality Matters insignia beside HMDV 410 Adaptive Teaching and Learning in Early Childhood Education assures students of enrolling in a quality online course.

My success in this process is attributed to Mr. Julian King’s dedication, patience, feedback, and ongoing support. Weekly meetings throughout the summer, feedback provision, assistance with forms, and preparation for peer reviewers’ meetings showcase his tenacious commitment to mentoring faculty through the Quality Matters certification process.
