UDC Appoints Dean of College of Arts and Sciences and Associate CAO for Faculty Affairs
UDC is pleased to announce the following new appointments to leadership and staff positions at the university:
Jeffery Fleming, Ph.D., has been appointed Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Fleming was appointed Acting Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at UDC in September 2024 after having served as Interim Dean since September 2023. In his prior role as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at CAS, he supported the dean in overseeing the development, administration and enhancement of academic programs. Fleming also has served as Chair of the Division of Sciences and Mathematics, Special Assistant to the Dean for Budget and Infrastructure, Chair of the Department of Mathematics, and Associate Professor of Mathematics at UDC.
He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, as well as multiple degrees from Howard University: a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics, and a Master of Arts in Religious Studies. The UDC Board of Trustees approved Fleming’s appointment on Dec. 3, 2024. His role as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences is effective as of Jan. 13, 2025.
Adanna J. Johnson, Ph.D., has been appointed Associate Chief Academic Officer for Faculty Affairs.
Johnson most recently served as the first Associate Vice President for Student Equity and Inclusion at Georgetown University.
She also served as an affiliate faculty member in the Psychology Department and The Earth Commons, Georgetown University’s Institute for Environment & Sustainability. Prior, Johnson served as the Senior Associate Dean of Students and Director of Diversity, Equity and Student Success.
Johnson obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Prairie View A&M University in Texas, as well as a Master of Arts in Counseling and a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology from Marquette University in Wisconsin.
The UDC Board of Trustees approved Johnson’s appointment on Dec. 3, 2024, which took immediate effect.
UDC is also pleased to share the following staffing updates:
Nakia Pugh has been named Interim Registrar.
Pugh is the senior administrative executive within the University who oversees the management and leadership of the Registrar’s Office. She is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of student records, academic data and the integrity of students’ academic history. Pugh has worked in the Registrar’s Office since 2014 and most recently served as Associate Registrar.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Delaware State University and a Master of Science in Administration from Trinity Washington University.
Pugh’s role as Interim Registrar is effective as of Oct. 21, 2024.
Peter T. Obalade has been named Budget Analyst in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer.
Obalade most recently served as a Budget Management Analyst for Prince George’s County. Prior, he was a Finance Assistant in the Office of the Dean at the University of Maryland School of Public Health. He has also served as a Fiscal and Policy Analyst for Baltimore County.
He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Maryland, as well as a Master of Project Management from Harrisburg University of Science and Technology in Pennsylvania.
Obalade’s role as Budget Analyst is effective as of Oct. 7, 2024.
