DC Residents Can Receive Up To $8,000 In Scholarships Through the DC Futures Program at the University of the District of Columbia

WASHINGTON – Eligible residents in the District can receive a last-dollar scholarship of up to $8,000 to attend the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) through the DC Futures Program. DC Futures is offered through the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). The Program, launched in October 2021, helps students complete their first associate’s or bachelor’s degree while providing college coaching and support services for personal and financial barriers. 

OSSE selected UDC as one of three universities eligible for the DC Futures Program.

The University awarded scholarships to eligible students in the fall 2022, spring 2023 and summer 2023 semesters. The application is available for students to complete the 2022-2023 academic year. Students must be a District resident for the last 12 months, accepted or enrolled at UDC in their first associate’s or bachelor’s degree, major in a high-demand field and demonstrate financial need based on annual household income requirement.

In addition to the last-dollar scholarship, DC Futures scholarship recipients may also be eligible to receive up to $1,500 in a stipend, up to $2,000 in emergency funds and participate in a college coaching program. Students may re-apply each year to receive awards, based on funding availability, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The DC Futures Program will alleviate students’ financial barriers and align with UDC’s mission to serve the community’s needs and produce lifelong learners who are transformative leaders.

This initiative combines unique supports: coaching, additional emergency funding and last-dollar scholarship support critical to students’ persistence, and ultimately, degree attainment.”
