Dr. Devdas Shetty - Dean of SEASDr. Devdas Shetty, Dean of the UDC School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), has been selected to receive the 2021 President’s Award at the Black Engineers of the Year (BEYA) STEM Virtual Conference in February. Shetty was chosen for this honor among hundreds of nominations due to his leadership of the department, including helping to secure numerous grants and awards and the establishment of four externally funded research centers from the National Science Foundation (NSF), NASA, the Department of Education (DOE) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

“I am extremely delighted and honored to receive this award from BEYA, an organization that values education as the key to unlock the human potential,” Shetty said. “It is also the contribution of my UDC colleagues that has made this recognition possible.” 

Vice President for Research & Graduate Programs Victor McCrary said that Dr. Shetty’s leadership of the SEAS team has “placed UDC among the top tier of the nation’s 15 HBCU ABET-accredited engineering schools” and thanked the SEAS team for its role in helping UDC become the District’s preeminent public land-grant, emerging research university. The BEYA STEM Virtual Conference is scheduled to begin Feb.11, 2021, and Shetty will receive the President’s Award at the BEYA Gala Feb.13, 2021.
