JAZZforum: A New Look at Piano Jazz Legend Marian McPartland

On Thursday, November 1 at 7pm, author Paul de Barros discusses his just-published biography, SHALL WE PLAY THAT ONE TOGETHER?: The Life and Art of Jazz Piano Legend Marian McPartland (St. Martin’s Press, 2012). Though she is well-known as the award winning host of NPR's long-running Piano Jazz program, McPartland's remarkable career began in the 1930s in her native England and has involved performing, composing, teaching, and running her own record label.  An open Q&A session and book signing will follow the discussion and reading. Recital Hall (Performing Arts Bldg. 46-West).
About the Author: An acclaimed journalist, Paul de Barros covers jazz and world music for the Seattle Times and is a noted freelance jazz critic.  A regular contributor to DownBeat magazine, he has written for Musician, Modern Drummer, Antioch Review, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and the Philadelphia Inquirer. His comprehensive Jackson Street After Hours (Sasquatch, 1993) stands as the definitive history of the early Seattle jazz scene.
