Congressman Lacy Clay to Deliver Commencement Address

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) will deliver the commencement address for graduates of the University of the District of Columbia May 12th at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.  Congressman Clay, who has represented constituents in the St. Louis area for nearly 30 years, serves on the Financial Services Committee, which has broad jurisdiction over banking, insurance, investment firms, pensions, consumer credit, and capital markets. In the 112th Congress, he is Ranking Member on the Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology Subcommittee, which oversees financial aid to all sectors of the economy.

“We are honored to have such a dedicated public servant speaking to our graduates,” said University President Dr. Allen L. Sessoms.  “He has been a tremendous supporter of Washington’s only public university, and his message embracing public service is great for us all to emulate.”

Congressman Clay’s office participates in the University’s Congressional Internship Program, which provides opportunities to work in a member of Congress’ office.  Several members participate in the successful program, which is adding more and more students each year.

Nearly 500 students will receive degrees from the University May 12th.
