Advancement Project:
Advancement Project is currently seeking candidates for full-time legal internships for Summer 2012 at it'snational Washington D.C. office. Interns will work closely with staff of civil rights attorneys and communication experts in creating and implementing strategies to support identified community-organizing efforts around racial justice issues. Advancement Project is a next generation, multi-racial civil rights organization. It tackles inequity with innovative strategies and strong community alliances. With a national office in Washington, DC and two offices in California, it combines law, communications, policy, and technology to create workable solutions, and achieve systemic change and a racially just democracy. Human Rights Campaign:
The Graphic Design team, within the Marketing department, is responsible for the Human Rights Campaign's visual identity through print and online materials, including but not limited to advertisements, invitations, brochures, reports, publications, the quarterly magazine and annual report. This internship is an opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in design work across a variety of media. The intern will work closely with the Senior Graphic Designer Specialist, Design Director, and Marketing Director on assisting with the production of print and online materials consistent with brand guidelines and specifications. The Equal Rights Center:
The Equal Rights Center is seeking applicants who will be in the Washington, DC area during the Spring 2012 semester to participate in it's Civil Rights Internship Program. Civil Rights Interns work closely with the staff of the ERC in each program area: fair housing, disability rights, immigrant rights, testing, communications, corporate collaborations, and an emerging LGBT initiative. Interns work on a variety of substantive tasks related to ongoing studies, investigations, and complaints in the Washington, DC area and across the nation, as well as help out with day to day administrative duties. The Spring Internship runs from January 2012 through May 2012. Interns are expected to commit to working 16-20 hours per week and will receive a $50 weekly stipend. Visit www.equalrightscenter.org
The Case Foundation:
It is looking for energetic and talented college students with a passion for civic engagement and philanthropy to join it's team as interns at the Case Foundation during the fall semester. Applicants with specific interest and experience in marketing, communications, graphic design, web strategies or user interface are preferred. Internships at the Case Foundation offer college students invaluable resume building work experience and networking opportunities! Not only will interns work closely with members of the Case Foundation team and have the opportunity to learn about and contribute to many aspects of it's business, but they also get to interact with partner organizations and participate in events that feature leaders in the community. Basketball Helps Ward One Kids
Children at Ward 1’s Boys & Girls club (#10) play basketball thanks to Hanif Hill. Young students there enjoy basketball and hit the books three times a week. In early September, Hill had 25 kids signed up with tutors until December. He eventually wants to add additional mentors to the program.
Bakery Hosts Open Mic
Enjoying the breeze of the mid- November evening, NE resident Sunni Purcel gathered along neighboring locals to recite his poem titled “Magic Dust.” For Purcel, this is the first time performing an open mic at the newly-established bakery Divinely Decadent Delights.
Living With Diabetes
In February 2004 William Broome was rushed to the emergency room with what he thought was shortness of breath. He soon found out, however, that his blood sugar had reached a dangerous level of over 400 and physicians feared the worse.
