It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lou Stovall on March 3 in Washington, DC at 86. An acclaimed Cleveland Park artist and printmaker, Stovall was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated from Howard University in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in art history. Stovall was a friend to the UDC community and his work can be seen at the Van Ness Campus in the Executive Suite of Building 39. Stovall represented the District for decades as an influential Black artist, collaborated with several DC artists, and received commissions from Nancy Reagan and Washington Mayor Marion Barry. Lou Stovall is survived by his wife, two children and two granddaughters.
